Texas Wing Cadet Competition 2008…

Sheldon Drill and Color Guard Teams traveled to Camp Mabry (Austin) Feb. 16-17 to defend our titles as state champions. Sheldon placed in 13 of 14 events and captured half the individual awards.

Drill Team

Our drill team consisting of cadets from KHS and KMS retained their title for the fourth consecutive year and will travel to Shreveport the last weekend in March to compete in the Southwest Region Competition (Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma) where we have been second to the eventual national champions the past 2 years. Highlights included a tie with two Sheldon cadets for highest written exam score and fleet foot awards for both male and female in the mile run.

Color Guard Team

Our Color Guard, consisting of cadets from KHS, KMS and S6, placed second overall by a mere 2 points. A young and junior team that was hoping to place not only placed in 5 of 6 events, but almost pulled off the surprise victory. Significant improvement in the mile run and written exam almost made an upset possible.

C/SSgt Katrina Girod placed second in the female mile by a mere 3 seconds.
